Prof Pillay holds MBChB cum laude(University of Natal) , PhD in biochemistry from the University of Cambridge and completed his postgraduate specialist training at Hammersmith Hospital, Imperial College, London and postdoctoral training in molecular cell biology and endocrinology at the University of California San Diego. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Pathologists, the College of Pathologists, SA and the Royal College of Physicians, Edinburgh.
